The best kept secret in college basketball has gotten back to its winning ways. Yes, we can all relax now. After playing like complete shit against Marshall over the weekend, (I'm just as surprised as you are; did not know Marshall had a bball team)which they lost 82-63 (even more surprised now that they smoked a powerhouse college basketball school by 19. I wonder if Matthew Mcconaughey was responsible for this turn around in Marshall athletics as well?). My Iona Gaels (8-2, 2-0 in MAAC) defeated the Richmond Spiders earlier today, 88-79, at the Robins Center in Richmond VA. Behind a great performance by Optimus Prime, aka Mike Glover, who dropped a solid 24 points and 8 boards. Btw, I hope this is a sign of things to come out of glover. When he scores more than 20 points, this team is dominant.
We cannot forget about future NBA star and best PG in the nation, Scott Machado. Ho Hum. Just another game where he dishes out 15 dimes and adds 13 points. Kid drops double doubles like they are going out of style. Not only is he the point guard on the 2nd best scoring team in the nation, this dude leads the nation in assists per game (10.4). Wouldnt mind Scott running the point for the celts in the next few years. I guarantee he wont throw a little hissy fit and chuck water bottles at tv screens when the coaches tell him that he sucks (i.e. Rondo).
More players who chipped in were Arizona transfer Momo Jones (have i mentioned that this team is looooaaaaaaddddeeeddd?) had 14 points and 4 assists, Sean Armand helped out with 17 points off the bench, and Ra'Shad James had 14 to go along with his 6 boards.
This was definitely the type of game we needed after losing horribly. Great bounce back win. The Gaels are in the midst of a tough road trip, the 5th out of an 8 game road trip. The wagon rolls into Burlington VT on Saturday to kick the shit out of UVM. Check back for updates.
